TTA 2007 Evening Series 2007 Evening Series
Qualifier 1 - 5 June
Not a great start to the series, and the weather change midway through the match didn't help either ! Tony & Richard had a decent tench each, Neil had a small carp and the rest was bits. Ah well, there's always next week ...
Qualifier 2 - 12 June
Another bumper turn-out but at least the weather was kind to us. Ian caught one perch to make his qualification look sensible (!) then went after the big carp (again) but failed to catch (again). Neil had 4 small carp and lots of gudgeon and little perch.
Qualifier 3 - 19 June
"The Famous Five get drenched at Rislip". The worst thunderstorm for some while made it an "interesting" evening but happily we set up and packed up under clear skies. Neil and Tony both had tench of around 4.5lbs but Neil's extra selection of gudgeon, small perch and rudd plus one wee carp won the day. Ian maintained his consistent lack of success with the bigger carp.
Qualifier 4 - 26 June
"The Fab Four go to Dixons Gap". Not the warmest of June evenings but dry at least. We fished the pound below the bridge and the walk-off left three of us in the middle section and Dave right down the far end (windiest & chilliest !) Neil got off to a good start with roach & perch on maggot under a waggler, but after adding a 3lb 8oz bream the swim seemed to die, so most of his weight came in the first hour. Richard found the chub on the end of his pole and ended up with six of them in the net. Dave and Ian both caught a bream apiece.
Qualifier 5 - 3 July
The pound immediately above Dixons Gap bridge, with conditions wet, breezy and not too warm. The top 3 had a decent bream each (*), Dave and Tony backing theirs up with a few gudgeon, perch, roach and skimmers. Tony lost a decent carp - that's the much-shortened version of his tale which will be serialised in the Daily Mail next week. Despite having first choice of peg, Neil missed out on anything large and had to content himself with his usual assortment of bits. * We think Ian's was the same one he caught last week from the pound below, obviously having decided to follow him and fatten up a bit for the journey. From now on, just call him One Bream Brown.
Qualifier 6 - 10 July
A disappointing evening's fishing (for most) above Black Jack's lock between Dixons and Marsworth. It all looked so good with chub cruising along and plenty of fizzing from the bottom, but Ian and Dave managed only one fish apiece whilst Tony didn't even get a bite ! Neil had 3 decent chub (waggler & pellet) in the first 20 minutes and went on to have a couple more (on maggot) plus bits for his winning weight. Martin and Richard had one chub each plus small fish (pole & worm / maggot). Where were the bream ? Or even the decent perch ?
FINAL - 17 July
A breezy but thankfully dry evening on Buckland short pound. Neil's net contained bream from 4oz through to 4lb, all caught on pellet under a waggler fished down the middle. Tony's best fish, a nice bream, came to his pole near the end and joined some small stuff to lift him into second place above Dave who had one decent bream, a good perch plus bits. Richard and Martin's weights were both made up of plenty of small fish. Neil Williams
