Record-breaking nets at Shabbington ! The River Thame Sweepstake on Sunday 2nd March 2008 saw the Shabbington (downstream) stretch's match record weight broken twice in 5 minutes ! It went first to Martin Rodwell (left photo) who fished the weir pool swim in the middle field. He landed 36lbs 2oz of chub to 4lb 10oz and 4 perch to 2lbs 4 oz, all on the pole with worm and maggot on the hook - he also lost 3 good fish. The record lasted only as long as it took to weigh in Glenn Miller's (right photo) 42lbs 12oz from the first peg in field 2 - he had banked 13 chub to 5lbs 8oz, all on the maggot feeder. Third was Alan Johnson with 2 chub for a total of 7lbs. Sadly, the rest struggled as it appears the fish were shoaled up. |
